Ice Age Trail, Day Fifteen

Saturday, May 16, 2026

19 miles today. Total miles so far: 211.5.

Day 15: Cornell to Otter Lake DCA.

I was up and out early, knowing it was going to be a warm day on shadeless roads. Watching the sun rise over pockets of mist, I headed out on highway 64, which was less busy than I thought it might be. I made reasonably good time, stopping for breaks at farm field turn-outs as needed. The pack was heavy with a full load of water and food for 6 days since I wasn't sure I could do the miles needed to finish in 5. After 12 miles, I took a longer break at a church. Their water was turned off but I did charge my phone for a bit. Five miles later I was nearing the local bait shop where I planned to get water. But it turned into a two hour stop as the locals let me hang out in a soft chair out of the sun while I had an ice cream bar, chocolate milk, Gatorade, and Doritos, trying to rehydrate. Camp was just a couple miles away with no amenities, so there was no point in getting there too early. So thanks to the Otter Lake bait shop for a most excellent afternoon! I finally moved along toward the .8 miles of trail that necessitated this longer-than-needed road walk to find a lumpy, dusty tent pad and music from a bar not too far away.
