Ice Age Trail, Day Twenty (rest day in Rib Lake)

Thursday, May 21, 2026

0 miles today. Total miles so far: 283.5.

Day 20: Rib Lake Zero.

Chores. Laundry first, and the laundromat provided local entertainment in the form of a photocopied missive against someone's landlord. Perhaps the landlord also owns the laundromat? Then I sorted out some gear and decided to mail a box home--the stove I'm using only intermittently, gloves I hope I no longer need, and the excess of first aid and blister care I added to manage those massive blisters from the first week on the trail. I haven't taped my feet for a few days and they're doing ok. I kept enough to get me to the next town with a pharmacy just in case, but the rest I sent home.

My appetite hasn't been great, but I got a burger for lunch before stopping by the village offices, where my trail angel told me to ask someone for a ride back to the trail in the morning since he wasn't available. Kris came to my rescue and we coordinated a meetup for the morning. I visited the library (in the same building), bought food for the next section, and went back to my room to try to nap, wrap up planning, and repack.
